The long thin Winter
We are standing on the edge of a season, Summer is all but gone. Mangoes are not the fruits that this season is enthroning. It may be long before we see one actually. I like being on the last leg of a season before another takes its place, the joint almost invisible, one night you go to sleep in summer, the next morning it is cold and its called winter now. It is time to dig into our cupboards and air all our winter attire, because naphthalene is not the smell of winter. Its true i think there are two distinct smells of summer and winter. Winter in my opinion smells so much better than Summer. In Summer the smells are short and sting the nostrils, flowers are really strong smelling and the anatomy of the scent is comparatively short lived in summer. Summer smells lurch you forward, wanting to explore more, Winter smells make you either stay put in your tracks or take your mind backwards to a place way long ago. Winter smells are mild and linger more. I love the smell of a gentle wood smoke piercing the early morning fog heavy air. Winter smells wet. I want to run into the next season.
but before that....I will walk into the nearby chemist's store and pick up chap sticks, one of these days. Winter has its flaws too.
